So, you say you're a Photog?


I went to a speaker last night and took photos for the advance-titan, our school newspaper.
The speaker was Bobbie Weiner, a Hollywood make-up artist. She is also known as Bloody Mary. The paper printer usual prints out our photos darker, so I had to lighten them up a bit more then normal. I used my nikon n53 film camera to take photos, but usually I use the newspapers Nikon N70, but for some reason that is not reading our memory cards at the moment.



I like shooting photographs for the newspaper. However, not all assignments are as exciting as they could be. Sometimes there is only so much you can do, while with other assignments you have freedom to experiment. I've been on staff for a semester now and I am still learning the art of photo journalism. I like it, but wish I could be better. I know in time I will be better, but I can't expect to be wonderful at everything the first time around.

Cut it out!


Today I experimented with photoshop and the cut out tools. The lasso and magic wand are fun to experiment. I've noticed that practice in editing my photos really helps and I've gotten better over time. However, as always there is still A LOT to learn.

A different view of a bicyclist

This was taken for a photography assignment on earth charter and its principals. Another photo from this assignment featured on oshkoshnews.org

The color of the blue sky exactly matches what it was like that day. I was really trying hard to think of a different angle to take a photo of Clint from.

I love low angles... It seems like fun since I am not afraid to get on the ground and get dirty. High angles are a bit difficult for me since I don't ever feel tall myself or know where to stand to make it more extreme. It almost makes me feel better if I am willing to experiment at all different angles even if I need to lay on the ground or climb a tree.

The sunlight creates a glare or a fog and when I brightened the image, it stood out more. I should've used a flash to light his face more because he is extremely backlit by the bright blue sky. However, on site I didn't see the sky as a backlight... I was just captivated by its gorgeous color. I tired to save the image as best as I could and keep its true color. I feel good about the photo but wonder how the flash could've made it better.

Other photos for the assignment are below. My proffessor said there was a photo missing from the package.. I agree but the other photos I took did not turn out of Clint riding in traffic.

I actually had a silly idea of riding in a trunk of a car taking shots of the cyclist riding towards me as we are both moving. However, the trunk slamed down on me after just a few feet and my shutter speed was too low for the movement. I don't suggest riding in a trunk unless you have someone to hold it up for you and a safe driver or an even road.
